About Tax by Town
Tax by Town is an independent reference for New Hampshire property owners. It turns the Department of Revenue Administration's published town tax rates into bills, rankings and year-on-year comparisons, and sets out the statutory abatement and appeal procedure, with every figure linked to its source and the date it was checked. It is not affiliated with the State of New Hampshire or any municipality.
How the site works
Every rate comes from the Department of Revenue Administration's annual Municipal Tax Rates report, read line by line for all 234 municipalities and checked so that the four parts add up to the printed total. The appeal and exemption pages quote the New Hampshire statutes and the Board of Tax and Land Appeals directly. The bill arithmetic is unit-tested against tax figures that towns publish themselves. The methodology page lists every source, the date it was read and what was left out.
The site does not sell appeal services, take referral fees or tell anyone whether to appeal. It shows the official procedure and the arithmetic.
Corrections
If a figure is wrong or a source has changed, email hello@taxbytown.com with the page and a link. Corrections go into the data file and the check date updates with the next build.
